SUE MERREN — OWNER/OPERATOR

Sue Merren has called Grand Cayman home for over 18 years. She spent the first several years of her career in the corporate world in Vancouver, Canada, before moving to the island to pursue her passion for health and fitness and turning it into an amazing, lifelong career. She is now the owner/operator of Balance Cayman, a boutique-style studio specializing in Pilates and functional fitness.

Sue’s certifications include STOTT® Pilates, ACE® Personal Trainer, TRX®, Booty Barre®, Buff Bones®, PN L2 Nutrition Coach, and several other specialty certifications. She has also completed the BASI Pilates Pro-Bridge and Mentor programs to further expand her Pilates teaching skills. Sue has spent many years teaching and crafting her own unique style, combining Pilates (while still remaining true to the fundamentals) and functional training, and continues to explore new ways to challenge herself and her clients.

Her teaching style is fun, compassionate, and professional. Sue truly believes that movement is medicine for the mind, body, and spirit, and loves to see her clients thrive when they can honestly see and feel the changes that the right exercise program combined with a positive mindset can bring. As a business owner, wife, and parent, Sue can also relate to the challenges that so many of us face on a daily basis in terms of juggling careers, personal health, leisure time, nutrition, and the demands of having a family, and helps her clients find ways to make it all work. Her contagious enthusiasm and dedication to living a balanced and healthy lifestyle motivates her clients to become their personal best.

Sue is also a former professional Figure Athlete, and has earned both WNBF and IFPA pro cards. She is proud of the fact that she is a natural athlete and credits her success to the Pilates method as the foundation to her fitness lifestyle. The Pilates method has allowed her to train hard and remain strong throughout her career.

When she’s not at the studio teaching clients and classes, she loves to spend her free time with her husband & son and enjoying all that the island lifestyle has to offer.

April is a certified Group Exercise Instructor through NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association) and has 400 hours of yoga certification in Vinyasa and Hot Yoga. To add upon that, April is a certified Yoga Bonding instructor, which is a yoga class designed specifically for new moms and their babies. April has many other certifications and training such as HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), Core Bootcamp, Barre Blend and Kids Yoga.

"I have been a resident of Grand Cayman for 13 years and have 2 beautiful children who are the apples of my eye! I also have a loving husband Steve, who supports me all the way.

Health and wellness have been a lifelong journey, starting at my father's side in the weight room when I was only a tot. I obtained my yoga certifications in 2006 and I have continued to build upon that. I find that practicing yoga (i.e. mindfulness, flexibility, balance & strength) are
complimentary to all other forms of exercise and an essential component to a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

I love teaching small group classes, especially to mom's who sometimes need an extra bit of support and encouragement to help them along. It is a blessing to be able to offer mom & baby classes here at Sue's beautiful studio, Balance."

In addition to April's current offerings, April has big plans for adding new and innovative classes to the Balance schedule within the coming year, so watch this space.

Louise Warren

Louise moved to Grand Cayman from London in December 2017. For the past 15 years she has been an Event Planner, organizing both corporate and private events from conferences and awards dinners to weddings and parties. Fitness and wellbeing however has been an important part of Louise's life, a keen runner and gym goer, she was first introduced to the Les Mills brand over 10 years ago and was a regular attendee at Body Pump and Body Attack classes.

Before moving to Cayman Louise founded a movement in London called EventWell which focused on giving support and wellness advice to Event Planners in the UK. This was founded following a study that listed the role of an Event Planner as the fifth most stressful job, following only those jobs which truly deal with life or death (military personnel, fire fighter, airline pilot and police officer). Through this movement, Louise helped and encouraged others like her in similar roles, to take stock of their lives and focus on health and wellbeing, putting themselves first to overcome stress and depression.

Having attended several yoga retreats and working with a Life Coach, 2017 saw a big change for Louise when she focused on wanting to move away from the 'big city', have a more outdoors lifestyle, to live by the sea and focus on her own fitness and wellbeing, with the aim of one day teaching fitness and running retreats to help others. Having manifested the vision, it suddenly became a reality when a job offer was made which involved moving to the Caribbean!

Having moved to Grand Cayman alone with no family or support network to turn to, fitness became a big part of getting through the first 6 months and as a result stumbled across Balance Cayman which offered her favorite workout class, Les Mills Body Pump. After moving abroad and focusing on her goals, Louise has now turned her dream of teaching Body Pump into a reality by recently attending the Les Mills Coaching Course at the US headquarters in Chicago.

Louise says; "By joining the Balance family and introducing early morning classes, I want to inspire others to get involved with Body Pump. It’s the perfect all over body workout and the results are not just physical but it is a great mental booster also. I hope to encourage more people in Cayman to come to classes and help others to focus on their wellbeing goals."
